Cris Bay-Andersen, lighting designer at Richland College, died in his sleep the weekend of Feb. 6-7, just a a few days before his 46th birthday, according to Chuck Sheffield, professor of theater.

Bay-Andersen was a former Richland student in the early 1980s. He took drama classes before transferring to Southern Methodist University and later attended Southwest Texas State University. He worked professionally in theater lighting for twenty years around the country in a number of cities, and worked at Eastfield College in Mesquite.

Bay-Andersen lived in McKinney and had been employed for the last five years with the Richland Drama Department.

"We have lost a devoted member of the Richland family," said Dr. Sherry Dean, dean of the School of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts, in an email sent out to the campus. "Richland College and the theater department were a huge part of Cris' life. His friends and colleagues in the School of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts are still very much in shock."

Funeral arrangements have yet to be made, however, this story will be updated as soon as new information is made available.
